Night 1: Friday, September 4th | Silverton Strange Kick off festival festivities with local filmmaker Julian Hood and the premiere of his new short series, "Silverton Strange." This captivating series explores the eerie lore and captivating legends surrounding Silverton’s historic, abandoned mines. Stick around for a Q&A discussion with Julian after the film.

Night 2: Wednesday, September 9th | A Ticket to Tomahawk The Night will start with a guest speaker and a short film, then step back into classic Hollywood with a screening of the 1950 musical western "A Ticket to Tomahawk." Filmed right here in Colorado, this film famously showcases our beloved narrow-gauge steam train line.

Night 3: Grand Finale | Denver & Rio Grande We wrap up the festival with the 1952 action-packed classic "Denver & Rio Grande." Celebrating Colorado’s epic rail-building era, this feature highlights the heroic history and dramatic landscapes of the western frontier.

Wednesday, September 9th: CO150 Film Festival: Ticket to Tomahawk

Experience a piece of Colorado film history exactly where it was made! Join us at the historic Silverton Powerhouse for a rare screening of this Technicolor musical-western. Filmed on location in the rugged San Juan Mountains (Silverton and Durango), the story follows a tough-as-nails deputy (Anne Baxter) and a traveling salesman (Dan Dailey) as they struggle to get the first train to Tomahawk on time.
Watching this classic—featuring an early appearance by Marilyn Monroe and the iconic Denver & Rio Grande Western No. 315 locomotive aka Emma Sweeny—inside a historic Silverton landmark brings the golden age of rail and cinema back to life. Don't miss this homecoming event for one of the region's most famous productions!

Wednesday, September 16th: CO150 Film Festival: Denver and Rio Grande (1952)

Denver and Rio Grande tells the story of the fierce competition to build Colorado's railroads, but its connection to Silverton runs much deeper. Filmed in and around Silverton and the San Juan Mountains, the movie captures the community and its dramatic landscapes as they looked more than seventy years ago.
Starring Edmond O'Brien, an Academy Award-winning actor known for The Barefoot Contessa and numerous classic film noirs, Sterling Hayden, remembered for Dr. Strangelove, and The Godfather, and Dean Jagger, Academy Award winner for Twelve O’clock High, Denver and Rio Grande brings together an exceptional cast to tell one of Colorado's defining stories. Their performances, combined with breathtaking Colorado scenery, make this much more than a Western—it is a celebration of the determination, ambition, and rugged landscapes that helped shape the American West.
